crazy

this happened last november 18, 2008.
we had a patient in the ICU that was hit by a florida bus and suffered multiple fractures on the clavicle and on the ribs and the worst injury that he suffered was that he had a temporal contussion which caused his brain to bleed and eventually this caused his death. prior to his death, his respiratory rate reached 60 and above, his blood pressure reached an all time high of 200/70 (that’s what we call “widened pulse pressure”), moreover, the patient was restless the whole shift and his pupils slowly reacts to light, all in all, his neuro vital signs were down.
a co-worker and i were performing bed side care on another patient when suddenly the relative of the patient called our attention and told us that the patient was no longer breathing. immediately, we called a code (red) so as to have other nurses help us revive the patient, but the patient’s case was (as we have foreseen) hopeless.
we performed CPR (kahit may rib and clavicular fracture yung patient, hehehe, sabi nga ni betha “deadma na” hahaha), ambubagging and gave three ampules of epinephrine, asked the patient’s relatives if they would like to intubate the patient so as to provide a better airway and to help support his respirations, took the patient’s ECG so as to assess traces of heart activity, suctioned the secretions, reassessed the blood pressure, but all these were to no avail. it seemed that the bleeding inside the patient’s cranium worsened.
—————
death is but a normal occurrence with the profession i chose. i do not enjoy seeing people die (who would want that, right?) instead, i would like to see a patient have a cardiac arrest and be revived because of the interventions performed during such an event.
with my line of profession, you have to get used to seeing people die, you do not let your emotions get ahead of you. you emphatise with the relatives of the diseased after, not while the patient is dying. you do not show any signs of weakness or panic so as to be able to show competence in your work.
in the hospital, the protocol is to do all possible things to revive a patient, because in the end, when you face the family of the diseased, at the very least, you can tell them that you did all you can to bring back his life.
and the very last thing that you can do if all methods of revival were to no avail, pray for the person’s soul. and i did.
pero sana lang, wag ako (si betha nalang or si maam Abba hahahaha joke) multuhin nung patient kasi we performed CPR. eh the patient has rib fractures. so parang na-worsen pa yung condition nya, pero sabi nga ni betha and again i quote “deadma na” hahahaha.

Mga bagay bagay na pinag – gagawa ko since I passed the board.
1. Threw a hilariously big party for passing the board (courtesy of my parents off course hahaha thanks mom and dad)
2. After that, I’ve experienced applying for work for the first time and gone through the horrendously long process of application and hiring, took some more exams and eventually got hired.
3. Became a staff at the hospital I applied for.
4. Have had the busiest day of my life on my first day of work.
5. Experienced working without even drinking, eating, sitting down, even yosi, wala.
6. Got a memo on my very first day of work.
7. Wrote an incident report.
8. Almost got suspended and terminated. Wahahaha
9. Got a pharmacist suspended for one month without pay (her fault though)
Here’s something not related to work.
10. Received a gift from my parents that I really wanted and needed way back when I was in college but completely pointless and unnecessary after school. Im still thankful though.
11. Experienced staying up for almost 48 hours. (ULS foundation day ‘08)
12. Painted the biggest painting I have ever painted. (ULS foundation day ‘08)
13. Pumayat at mag adik. (Work + diet pills creates wonders wahahaha)
14. Kumain only once a day.
15. Kumain ng kumain within one day. Wahahaha (ubos na yung pills hahahaha)
Im planning on writing an entry on each of the item above but I hardly have enough time to write. So, sorry nalang.
Nga pala, I would like to brag and shout out that I earned my first pay last September 30. at tumataginting na P948! ANG LAKI DI BA? WAHAHAHAHA.
