revived…

(kamay ko yan, nag aambubag ako)
i was on my way out of the intensive care unit when i heard the hospital’s intercom boom with the phrase “paging all nurses on duty, code red to ER now!” call me bad pero a code red excites me(just like madamme che che lolz) - action to baby! lolz…
from the ICU, i took the cardiac board and the endotracheal set (the ET set is what doctors use to help support the respirations of a patient dying or not)…
sakto! there was a need to revive the patient because the patient was in cardiac and pulmonary arrest…
with adrenaline pumping through my veins, walang panicky feeling, pero there was a need to do things fast…
the patient’s pupils were dilated but still reactive to light, there were minor lacerations and abrasions on the face but his abdomen has a bulge which looked like the area hit by the ten wheeler truck, we were all guessing that there was some organ or blood vessel that ruptured upon impact inside his abdominal cavity which might be causing severe internal bleeding, luckily, the patient has a cardiac rate but the blood pressure can only be taken through palpation. we were performing continuous ambu-bagging, started an IV line and dripped his fluids fast to spike up the BP, pushed 3 ampules of epinephrine to support the patient’s heart in pumping blood, monitored his NVS and VS……………..
eventually, the patient was revived… before i left the hospital, the patient was conscious, and with spontaneous breathing…
in a previous entry, i mentioned there that i would like to see a patient in cardio and pulmonary arrest revived. kumbaga, us nurses and doctors would steal him back from kamatayan’s kalawit, and tonight, we did.
again, nothing beats the power of prayer…….
pero let’s accept the fact that not all patients will ever be revived and stolen back from kamatayan’s kalawit.

A Nurse’s Prayer
September 2nd, 2008 by janmihaelvaldez
Nurse’s Prayer
Dear Lord,
From whom all the goodness flows,
Giver of all good things,
I come to You with an open heart,
Thanksgiving and prayers I bring.
This work is truly a gift from You,
Serving those in pain,
In the daily living of ourselves,
We are the ones who gain.
Whenever patients need our care,
May we welcome them with grace.
Gentleness and passion,
May they see on every face.
Help us do the best we can
Alert at every hour,
Round the clock, tireless be,
And from duties never cower.
Be our strength and guidance, Lord,
Let us work as a team,
Heal, work miracles where we are
As hard as they may seem.
For all these Lord, I pray to you
Make me steadfast as I envision
You say, “Well done, faithful servant….
You’ve fulfilled your life’s mission.”
This is the prayer printed on the scroll, that ate
Gemma gave me on my 21st Birthday last May 8, 2008 before the board examination.
Thank you so much ate gemma.
